LASIK SURGERY

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
It has been more than 5 years since I had my LASIK surgery to correct my short-sighted eyes at Optimax KL in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. I actually had my surgery done on my right eye on 17 August 2002 and followed by my left eye on 28 September 2002.

Before the surgery I heard from friends on the side effects of the surgery and my family members disagreed with my decision. I have been wearing glasses since the age of 14. I always feel uncomfortable when doing outdoor activities with gIasses and most of the time I don't wear it for outdoor activities and had to bear with blur vision. I really wanted to have a perfect vision and finally my dream came through in 2002 as I had saved enough from my hard-earned money for the surgery. At that time, I was working as an Accounts Assistant and studying part time.

After the surgery, my eyes felt dry and had to apply some eye drops for 3 months. The effect of the surgery was my vision started to get clearer within a few hours and I need not wear glasses anymore. The other side effects of the surgery was the night vision problem. My eyes are very sensitive ot lights of on-comig cars when driving at night and I have some difficulty seeing distance objects at night. I had to wear glasses with multi-coated lens to help me to see better at night and prevent lights from on-coming cars from distracting my night vision when driving. I had some slight long-sighted eyes for the first few weeks after the surgery and this gradually cured over the years. The long-sighted eyes was due to the over-correction effect of the surgery.

After 5 years my eyes are still the same i.e. perfect vision based on the annual eyes check-up. The effect after the surgery seems to be quite permanent over the 5 years. I never regret for opting for this surgery altough I spent RM4,000 in 2002 for my surgery. I would recommend this surgery to those who wants to have perfect vision although there are some side-effects. The benefits outweigh the disadvantages as I enjoy outdoor activities and daily lifestyle with perfect vision.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Fang Hau. Also maybe if not for Lasik, you would not have been so active in hiking and I am so happy for you. But I wonder if the side effects are because Malaysian Lasik clinics are not as experienced. I hope they will further improve one day.

I never had the guts to do this ... but being 4-eyed never stopped me from doing things that I like, I still dive and hike on contacts, sudah biasa, no trouble for me.

the side effects are quite normal. Sometimes there are bound to have side effects. The most important objective from the surgeryis to achieve vision that can help you see without relyng on your glasses.

The side effects are acceptable, but nowadays - you can have exact precision in everything - any side effects or inaccuracy seems like something that can be improved - especially compared to other places that can do it accurately.

Keep away from dusty and crowded places during periods of influenza epidemics!

When your child seemingly gets better, then gets worse again, you’re next to getting crazy!

Hi Phillip

I do not wear specs anymore. I only wear multi coated lens for my night driving. My eyes are quite sensitive to glaring lights at night especially when driving.
